CVE-2022-49569

Local system crash via SPI timeout handling

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to crash the system via an IRQ-based BCM2835 SPI timeout. bcm2835_spi_handle_err() unconditionally cancels TX and RX DMA transfers even when ctlr->dma_tx or ctlr->dma_rx is NULL during non-DMA transfers. Reachability requires local access, the BCM2835 SPI driver, and an IRQ-based transfer timeout; the reported consequence is a kernel crash.
