CVE-2022-49560

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked exFAT clusters

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the exFAT driver in the Linux kernel allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory via crafted volumes. exfat_clear_bitmap and exfat_set_bitmap use a cluster-derived bitmap index without first confirming that the cluster lies within the filesystem range, causing out-of-bounds pointer access and bit updates. Exploitation requires a user or automount path to mount an attacker-supplied exFAT image or device and truncate or delete its crafted file; the resulting kernel-memory corruption can disclose data or crash the host.
