SYSTEM privilege escalation via GdiPlus.dll search order
Published Sep 30, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
DLL search-order hijacking in Caphyon Advanced Installer 19.7 allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM privileges. A generated elevated setup executable loads GdiPlus.dll from a user-writable .Local WinSxS directory before the protected Windows copy. A low-privileged user must plant a crafted DLL beside an affected installer and wait for the installer to run; successful loading grants SYSTEM execution.
