Service interruption via unreleased NTFS3 folios
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in the NTFS3 filesystem in Linux 5.18 allows local users to consume kernel memory through write-and-unmount cycles. The inode address-space operations omit invalidate_folio, so cached written folios remain allocated after the filesystem is unmounted. A local user needs write and unmount access to an NTFS3 filesystem; repeated cycles consume memory and can interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
