CVE-2022-49538

Local system crash via ALSA input-device race

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to crash the system through an ASoC jack-report race. In snd_jack_report, input_dev can be unregistered concurrently and become NULL before jack status reporting dereferences it because access is not serialized. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an ASoC path that races jack reporting with input-device teardown; the resulting fault interrupts the host.
