CVE-2022-49511

Local service crash via deferred-I/O pagelist race

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in Linux kernel 5.18 fbdev deferred I/O allows local users to crash the system through concurrent framebuffer page access. fb_deferred_io_mkwrite() adds page->lru to the pagelist while fb_deferred_io_fault() reinitializes that node without the protecting lock. Low-privileged local access to an fbdev framebuffer using deferred I/O is required, and successful triggering corrupts the kernel pagelist and interrupts the host.
