CVE-2022-49495

Local system crash via unchecked HDMI resource

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel 4.3 through 5.18.2 allows local users to crash systems during msm HDMI device probing. In msm_hdmi_init, platform_get_resource_byname can return NULL for the named memory resource, but the code dereferences res->start without checking the result. Triggering requires low-privileged local access and an msm HDMI platform device whose resource lookup fails; the reported consequence is limited to availability.
