Local system crash via unchecked deadlock error
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel MSM MDP5 display driver allows local users to trigger a system crash. mdp5_pipe_release dereferences the state returned by mdp5_get_global_state without first checking its -EDEADLK error result. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and the affected MDP5 display path; the documented consequence is loss of availability rather than data access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
