Service interruption via DART node reference leak
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource leakage in the PowerPC DART IOMMU code in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to interrupt service. iommu_init_early_dart obtains a reference-counted u3-dart or u4-dart device-tree node through of_find_compatible_node but fails to call of_node_put after initialization succeeds or fails. Reachability requires a PowerPC system whose device tree exposes compatible DART hardware; public sources document the reference leak but no demonstrated crash path.
