Kernel panic via cleared RAID personality pointer
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026
A null-pointer dereference in the Linux MD RAID subsystem allows local users to crash the kernel during a RAID personality reshape. During a reshape from RAID0, raid0_free clears mddev->private after the reshape code stores the new personality there, leaving later RAID code to dereference NULL. Reaching the fault requires low-privileged local access and an active MD RAID reshape; the reported consequence is a kernel panic and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
