CVE-2022-49370

Local denial of service via leaked kobject reference

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory leak in Linux kernel 2.6.39 through 5.18.3 allows local users to exhaust kernel memory through failed DMI sysfs registration. The dmi_sysfs_register_handle function calls kobject_init_and_add, but its error path omits kobject_put and leaves the acquired reference allocated. Local low-privilege access is required, and repeated reachable failures can consume kernel memory until system availability is impaired.
