CVE-2022-49359

Local privilege escalation via stale job MMU pointer

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel panfrost DRM driver allows local users with render-node access to crash the system or gain kernel privileges. An in-flight job retains a panfrost_file_priv pointer after panfrost_postclose frees it, then dereferences its stale MMU pointer during completion. Access to a Panfrost DRM render node and the ability to submit a GPU job and close its file descriptor are required; no network path or separate user action is involved.
