CVE-2022-49329

Kernel crash via VDUSE sysfs NULL dereference

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel 5.15 allows local users to crash the kernel via VDUSE control-device sysfs access. The msg_timeout_show function dereferences dev_get_drvdata() for the control device even though that device has no driver data, so reading its msg_timeout attribute reaches NULL. Local low-privileged access to the exposed sysfs attribute is required; the documented consequence is a kernel crash, with no confidentiality or integrity impact.
