Local denial of service via initialization memory leak
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
A memory leak in the Linux kernel rtl8712 driver allows local users to exhaust memory when device initialization fails. The r871xu_drv_init failure path leaves the I/O queue allocated by r8712_alloc_io_queue because r8712_usb_dvobj_deinit performs no release action. Reachability requires the staging r8712u USB Wi-Fi driver and a driver-software initialization failure; repeated failures can degrade system availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
