Backup disclosure via unchecked heartbeat response
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Jan 13, 2025
Missing authorization in BackUpWordPress 3.12 allows remote authenticated users to disclose backup paths through WordPress Heartbeat. The heartbeat_received() callback adds backup-location data to the AJAX heartbeat response without verifying an administrative capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to obtain paths that enable direct download of stored site and database backups.
