CVE-2022-49298Public exploit

Service interrupt via uninitialized rtl8712 MAC byte

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Use of an uninitialized byte in Linux kernel rtl8712 allows local users to interrupt service during USB device probing. When EE_9346CR reads as zero, r871xu_drv_init leaves mac[6] unset and later consumes the seven-byte MAC buffer. Reaching the flaw requires low-privileged local access and an rtl8712 USB probe; the published impact is limited to availability.
