CVE-2022-49293

Kernel stack disclosure via uninitialized nftables registers

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Information disclosure in the Linux kernel allows local users to expose kernel stack contents through crafted nftables rules. The nft_do_chain function declares nft_regs without initialization, so nftables expressions can read residual stack values and return them to user space. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and permission to create nftables rules; leaked kernel pointers can weaken address randomization.
