CVE-2022-49272

Local PCM operation hang via AB/BA deadlock

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Deadlock in Linux kernel ALSA PCM 5.10.109, 5.15.32, 5.16.18, and 5.17.1 allows local users to hang PCM operations. Concurrent OSS mmap reconfiguration holds mmap_lock while ALSA or OSS PCM reads and writes hold buffer_mutex and enter copy_to_user or copy_from_user, reversing lock order. Low-privileged local access and overlapping mmap with PCM I/O are required; the resulting AB/BA lock cycle blocks audio operations without reported data exposure or modification.
