Local service interruption via uninitialized AV/C flag
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Use of an uninitialized resource in the Linux kernel allows local users to interrupt service through FireWire AV/C transactions. In fcp_avc_transaction(), non-control and non-notify commands leave the deferrable Boolean unset, and fcp_response() later reads it while handling an INTERIM response. The path requires local low-privileged access and FireWire AV/C activity; ordinary non-control and non-notify transactions suffer no disadvantage because they do not use INTERIM status.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
