CVE-2022-49221

Kernel crash via uninitialized DisplayPort connector

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel MSM DisplayPort driver allows local users to crash the kernel through a malformed EDID. dp_panel_handle_sink_request() reads real_edid_checksum through dp_panel::connector even though msm_dp_modeset_init() never assigned that pointer. Reaching the fault requires the MSM DisplayPort path and a sink compliance request carrying the intentionally bad EDID checksum.
