Local service interruption via RTC node-reference leak
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Reference-count leakage in the Linux kernel GameCube RTC driver in 5.17 through 5.17.1 allows local users to interrupt service. gamecube_rtc_read_offset_from_sram acquires a device-tree node through of_find_compatible_node but omits of_node_put after use. Exposure requires the affected RTC driver on Nintendo GameCube, Wii, or Wii U hardware, and the consequence is limited to availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
