Local service interruption via leaked SAS tasks
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
A memory leak in the Linux kernel pm8001 SCSI driver allows local users to interrupt service through repeated abort failures. The pm8001_send_abort_all() error paths return without freeing an allocated SAS task when tag allocation or MPI command construction fails. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and the pm8001 driver; repeated failures consume kernel memory and interrupt service.
