Service interruption via leaked CephFS inode references
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2026
Inode reference leakage in Linux allows local users to interrupt CephFS clients by reaching ceph_get_snapdir() error paths. The function returns ENOTDIR after ceph_get_inode() acquires a reference, without calling iput() or discard_new_inode() on two error exits. The path requires an affected kernel acting as a CephFS client, and repeated triggers retain inode references until service is interrupted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
