CVE-2022-49099

Service interruption via late DMA state initialization

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper initialization in the Hyper-V VMBus driver in Linux 5.17 through 5.17.2 allows local users to interrupt service. The vmbus_device_register function calls device_register before assigning the device's dma_mask, dma_parms, and DMA mask value, so netvsc_probe reaches DMA mapping with incomplete device state. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access to a Hyper-V guest with the affected VMBus path, and the published impact is limited to availability.
