Kernel instability via freed SAS port dereference
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel 5.11 through 5.18-rc1 lets local users trigger a kernel memory error during mpt3sas driver removal. _scsih_expander_node_remove() calls mpt3sas_transport_port_remove(), which frees the SAS expander's port before ioc_info() dereferences its port ID. The demonstrated path requires privileged module unloading and an attached mpt3sas SAS expander; the record shows a KASAN fault but does not establish code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
