CVE-2022-49077

Service interruption via empty KVM invalidation range

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Off-by-one error in the Linux kernel allows local users to interrupt service via an old-size-zero mremap call under KVM. The move_page_tables function unnecessarily passes an empty range to invalidate_range_start and invalidate_range_end, causing KVM's mmu_notifier to issue a kernel WARN. Low-privileged local access is sufficient; the direct effect is a warning, while service interruption depends on warning handling.
