CVE-2022-49044

Kernel memory corruption via undersized recalculation buffer

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

Memory corruption in Linux kernel dm-integrity allows local users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN to overwrite kernel memory during recalculation. The integrity_recalc loop advances through ic->recalc_tags by tag_size, while crypto_shash_final writes the larger digest size and overruns the final allocation. Reachability requires a dm-integrity mapping whose tag_size is smaller than its hash digest; published sources establish memory corruption but no reliable further consequence.
