Kernel-memory disclosure and crash via unchecked rate index
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in the Linux mac80211 subsystem allows physically proximate attackers to read kernel data or crash the host over Wi-Fi. ieee80211_get_rate_duration uses the receive-status rate_idx to index a 12-entry duration array without first enforcing the MCS_GROUP_RATES bound. The path is reachable through adjacent, unauthenticated Wi-Fi traffic during airtime accounting; it supplies no write primitive, but an invalid index can disclose kernel memory or cause a kernel oops.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
