Kernel crash via failed receive-ring allocation
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux nixge Ethernet driver allows local users to crash the kernel after a DMA allocation failure. nixge_hw_dma_bd_release iterates over priv->rx_bd_v after nixge_hw_dma_bd_init fails to allocate that receive descriptor array, dereferencing a NULL pointer. Reaching the fault requires local low-privileged access and an allocation failure; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash, with no reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
