Service interruption via leaked AFS server reference
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Incomplete cleanup in the Linux kernel 6.0 through 6.0.11 allows local users to hang AFS module removal and interrupt service. In fs/afs/server.c, afs_put_server() calls atomic_inc_return() instead of reading server->active, incrementing the reference counter and preventing server cleanup. The condition is reached when the AFS module is unloaded; rmmod then hangs with a purge warning, without reported confidentiality or integrity impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
