Kernel crash via unchecked sensor allocation
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in Linux hwmon asus-ec-sensors 5.18 before 6.0.12 allows local users to crash the kernel when allocation fails. The asus_ec_probe function failed to check two devm_kcalloc results before fill_ec_registers dereferenced the allocated arrays. Reachability requires local low-privileged access, supported ASUS hardware, the sensor driver, and an allocation failure; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
