Service interrupt via leaked PCI device references
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Reference-count leakage in the Linux VT-d IOMMU subsystem allows local users to cause a service interrupt through initialization errors. In dmar_dev_scope_init(), an error exit breaks a for_each_pci_dev() traversal while pdev remains non-null but omits pci_dev_put(), retaining the PCI-device reference. Local low-privileged access is required, and published sources identify neither a concrete trigger nor whether exhaustion ends in a hang, crash, or reboot.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
