Local kernel panic via mismatched sequencer callbacks
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel ALSA sequencer allows local users to trigger a kernel panic or thread termination. In snd_seq_expand_var_event, seq_copy_in_user and seq_copy_in_kernel are cast to snd_seq_dump_func_t despite incompatible callback prototypes, so kCFI rejects the indirect call target at runtime. Reaching the failure requires local access to an affected kernel built with CONFIG_CFI_CLANG; the result is limited to a killed thread or kernel panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
