Kernel crash via io_uring task-work race
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel through an io_uring task-exit race during exec. When io_ring_exit_work queues task_work while exec cancels pending work, io_tctx_exit_cb can run after current->io_uring becomes NULL and dereference it. Triggering requires local low-privileged execution and can panic the kernel when panic_on_warn is enabled, interrupting the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
