CVE-2022-48951

Service interruption via unchecked stereo second channel

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Improper input validation in the Linux kernel ASoC subsystem allows local users to interrupt service via crafted stereo-control values. The snd_soc_put_volsw_sx() path checks the first channel against the control's advertised range but accepts an unchecked second-channel value in stereo controls. Low-privilege local access is required; SUSE rates the consequence as availability-only, while published materials do not identify whether interruption manifests as a hang, crash, or other failure.
