CVE-2022-48945

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked compose height

Published Sep 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux vivid driver allows local users with video-device access to crash or corrupt the kernel via V4L2 ioctls. In vivid_vid_cap_s_selection, the crop-selection path adjusts compose.height without remapping the compose rectangle inside the format bounds, so streaming copies past the allocated frame buffer. Access to a vivid /dev/videoN node is required; a crafted ioctl sequence triggers a kernel oops or broader kernel-memory corruption without user interaction.
