CVE-2022-48943

Guest-task hang via zero async-page-fault token

Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in affected Linux KVM releases allows local users to block a guest task indefinitely via an asynchronous page fault. The kvm_arch_setup_async_pf() path can generate token zero, which the READY-event logic mistakes for a completed notification and drops. The condition requires an x86 KVM guest using paravirtualized asynchronous page faults; the documented consequence is a hung guest task, not a host crash.
