Local service interruption via unfreed uevent strings
Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux int3400 thermal driver from 4.14 allows local users to exhaust kernel memory through repeated ACPI notifications. The int3400_notify function allocates event-environment strings with kasprintf but does not release them after dispatching the uevent. Reachability requires a system exposing the INT3400 ACPI thermal device, and repeated notifications can consume memory until service is interrupted.
