CVE-2022-48914

Kernel crash via stale Xen netfront queues

Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Denial of service in Linux xen/netfront allows local users to crash the kernel by removing a Xen network frontend device. During xennet_remove(), unregister_netdev() zeroes real_num_tx_queues before xennet_destroy_queues() uses it, so freed queues remain linked in NAPI. Triggering the fault requires local low-privileged access to a Xen guest using the netfront driver, and the bounded consequence is a kernel NULL-pointer crash.
