Kernel memory leak via unfreed reset items
Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux kernel ibmvnic driver allows local users to consume kernel memory by triggering reset-queue flushing. The ibmvnic_reset function removes pending ibmvnic_rwi entries from adapter->rwi_list during force-reset recovery without freeing their allocations. The flaw is reached when force-reset recovery flushes a nonempty reset queue, and each trigger leaks a small allocation that can accumulate into availability loss.
