Kernel crash via uninitialized mac80211 link pointer
Published Aug 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel 6.1 through 6.1.7 allows local users to crash the kernel through mac80211 fast-rx. The fast-rx path can call __ieee80211_rx_h_amsdu without initializing rx->link_sta, while later delivery code assumes it is valid whenever rx->sta is valid. Exploitation requires local privileges and a mac80211 receive path that reaches A-MSDU handling; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
