Kernel crash via AMPDU deauthentication race
Published Aug 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in affected Linux kernels from 2.6.36 allows local users to crash mac80211 during an AMPDU start race. During deauthentication, ieee80211_tx_ba_session_handle_start obtains a null sdata value and passes it into driver handling, causing a page fault. Local access to a mac80211 wireless interface and precise timing against deauthentication are required; the consequence is limited to a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
