CVE-2022-48828Network attack vector

Exported-file corruption via signed size underflow

Published Jul 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Integer underflow in affected Linux NFSD versions allows remote attackers to corrupt exported files via an oversized NFSv4 size attribute. decode_fattr4 assigns the unsigned 64-bit client value directly to signed iattr::ia_size, so values above S64_MAX become negative before nfsd_setattr reaches notify_change. A reachable writable export is the gate; the negative size can truncate data and corrupt filesystem metadata, including on the affected Siemens GNU/Linux subsystem.
