CVE-2022-48827Network attack vector

NFS client hang via NFSD offset overflow

Published Jul 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in Linux NFSD and Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 TM MFP GNU/Linux subsystem allows remote attackers to hang NFS clients. NFSD implicitly converts an unsigned NFSv3 or NFSv4 READ offset to loff_t, so a near-OFFSET_MAX request overflows and returns NFSERR_INVAL rather than a short result with EOF. Reachability requires access to a writable NFS export on a filesystem that permits a maximum-size sparse file; the resulting retry loop hangs the reader and continuously loads NFSD.
