Kernel panic via registered MDIO bus free
Published Jul 16, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in affected Linux kernels allows local users to panic the kernel during shutdown on systems using the Felix VSC9959 DSA switch. The Felix driver leaves a devres-allocated MDIO bus registered, so driver release passes the live bus to mdiobus_free and triggers a panic. The condition requires a Felix switch linked to a DSA master on a bus whose shutdown path removes drivers, and the panic interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
