CVE-2022-48788Network attack vector

Kernel compromise via NVMe-RDMA recovery race

Published Jul 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel NVMe-RDMA host allows remote attackers to corrupt kernel memory through an established storage session. nvme_rdma_submit_async_event_work can schedule async_event_work while error recovery changes the controller to RESETTING and destroys the admin queue without first flushing that work. Reachability requires an established NVMe-RDMA controller connection; winning the race can crash or hang the host or enable kernel-context read, write, and control-flow corruption.
