CVE-2022-48701

Kernel memory disclosure via unchecked interface count

Published May 3, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel before 6.0 allows physically proximate attackers to disclose kernel memory via a malformed USB audio device. The __snd_usb_parse_audio_interface() path selects interface index 3 for USB ID 0x04fa:0x4201 without first verifying that bNumInterfaces is at least four. Exploitation requires attaching that crafted device to a system with the ALSA USB-audio driver, and the invalid read can expose kernel data or crash the system.
