Stored script execution via unescaped formatted memo text
Published Dec 31, 2022 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Stored XSS in Memos before 0.9.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script when another user views a crafted memo. The Bold, BoldEmphasis, Emphasis, and Link renderers recursively parse nested memo text without the PlainText escaper, leaving embedded HTML executable. Exploitation requires storing a memo and a victim viewing it, after which script runs in the victim's browser with access to data and actions available to that session.
