Memory disclosure or service interruption via malformed JSON
Published Feb 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2024
Out-of-bounds reads in Cpanel::JSON::XS before 4.33 allow attackers to disclose process memory or crash or hang services via malformed JSON. In relaxed decoding, decode_hv advances beyond the input buffer while seeking a colon after an unterminated hash key, then dereferences the out-of-range cursor. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled malformed JSON to the relaxed decoder; consequences are limited to memory disclosure, a process crash, or an indefinite hang.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
