Script execution via unsanitized hidden ref value
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in Cacti 0.8.7g and earlier allows unauthenticated remote attackers to run script in a user's browser via ref. The auth_changepassword.php form writes the ref request value into a hidden input without sanitizing or encoding it, so crafted markup breaks out of the attribute and executes. Exploitation requires a user to open an attacker-crafted URL, and the resulting script runs in the Cacti site's browser origin with access to page data and actions available to that user.
